Community

We engage with the community around the Royal Docks, to get our projects right. As we have taken on a new role as a “developer on the water”, we are prioritising good public engagement. We want local communities to be seen and heard in the development of projects, so that we are having the best possible impact on the local area.

Developer on the Water

We published the Vision for Royal Victoria Dock West in February 2026, which was followed by a period of public engagement that was analysed in an Early Engagement Report. In that report we set out what we learned and what we were going to do with the information gathered. This blog summarises that report.

Our ongoing commitment to community engagement

With the Vision, we are in a continual cycle of listening, analysing, working, feeding back and listening again.

  • Community Commitment

Royal Docks Waterways is part of the Silvertown Social Infrastructure Forum and is working with others to finalise and commit to a Charter which will help to hold Royal Victoria Dock West and other developments to high standards of delivering social infrastructure locally.

  • Built-In Social Value

Project briefs and procurement processes for the Residential and Wellness projects within the Vision have included social value and engagement requirements set out in the Early Engagement Report.

  • Local Steering Group

We are setting up a Local Steering Group made up of a selection of representative bodies to be involved in design reviews. This group is anticipated to meet approximately every other month during the feasibility and design phases for the projects.

  • Community Review Panel

We are exploring with other Royal Victoria developers the creation of a Community Review Panel. This would be a chance for residents, with appropriate support, to be paid to review proposals coming forward across the Royal Victoria area over the coming months and years.

  • Long-Term Investment

We are committed to establishing a Community Chest for ongoing local investment as part of the overall business model for the Residential project. A proportion of the revenue will contribute to a Community Chest which can pay for ongoing services.

FAQs

Find answers to common questions about how we engage with local communities and our approach to development at the Royal Docks.

What does Royal Docks Waterways mean by being a "developer on the water"?

As we take on a growing role in the development of the Royal Docks, we are committed to doing so in a way that puts the local community at the centre of the process. This means publishing our plans openly, inviting feedback, and being transparent about how that feedback shapes what we do next.

What is the Vision for Royal Victoria Dock West?

The Vision for Royal Victoria Dock West is our published plan for the future of this part of the dock estate. It was published in February 2026 and sets out our proposals for the area, followed by a period of public engagement to hear the views of local people and organisations.

What did you learn from the Royal Victoria Dock West public engagement?

The findings from the public engagement period are set out in our Early Engagement Report, which analyses the feedback we received and explains what we intend to do with it. The report is available to download from this page.

How do you use the feedback you receive from the community?

We operate a continual cycle of listening, analysing, working and feeding back. Feedback from public engagement directly informs how our plans develop, and we are committed to reporting back to the community on what we have heard and how it has influenced our decisions.

How can I stay up to date with the Vision for Royal Victoria Dock West?

Updates will be published on our blog and in our newsletter as the project develops. We welcome ongoing conversations with local people and look forward to continued engagement over the coming months and years.
