Hidden Crossings
Beneath the water, a network of culverts quietly keeps the Royal Docks connected. These protected passageways carry essential utilities across the docks, unseen, uninterrupted, and integral to the infrastructure that keeps the whole area running.

Beneath the Surface
The culverts within the Royal Docks play a crucial but largely unseen role in keeping the area connected and operational. These structures provide protected routes for essential services to pass beneath the water, linking utilities and infrastructure across the docks without disrupting navigation or the surrounding environment.
Key culverts include the Connaught Culvert, located within the Connaught Cut beneath Connaught Bridge; The DRIM culvert which spans beneath Royal Albert Dock along the old site replaced by the Sir Steve Redgrave Bridge; forming a vital connection for utilities between the north and south sides; and the culverts beneath King George V (KGV) Lock enable services to complete the crossing started by the DRIM culvert in the east.

Underwater Connections
Together, these culverts form an integral part of the Royal Docks’ hidden engineering network, supporting the reliable distribution of services while preserving the open water spaces that define the area.
