Hundreds of people have shared their views about Floating Residential

Nov 6th 2026

October was a busy month – we held seven events, again attended by hundreds of people (of whom 81 filled out feedback forms) – but this time our focus was just on the Floating Residential project, during its feasibility study. We also received 70 online survey responses and 12 emails. Thank you to everyone who took the time to review our materials and then share their views with us.

Our design team, led by architects Haptic Architects and Gort Scott, spent summer 2026 developing early ideas for the Floating Residential project, building on earlier feedback. Things like:

  • Keeping buildings low so the open sky is preserved
  • Extending the dock edge so more people can get closer to the water
  • Creating community facilities that work for everyone who lives here, not just new residents
  • All-electric homes with no run-off into the dock water.

The ideas we’ve presented are not final plans. They’re early ideas, so the October community engagement events were a good opportunity to tell us what you think, before we progress designs further.

We had drop-in sessions at Britannia Village Hall, a return of the Thames Sailing Barge “Will”, a community workshop and several themed sessions, including a Young Designers workshop during half term.

We’re now analysing what we heard and learnt, and feeding this into ongoing project development. The next round of public engagement is expected to be in February 2027. We will include a “you said, we did” section in February, and after the feasibility study completes in April, we will publish a report about the whole engagement process.

Look out for an announcement very soon about the Floating Wellness project…
